2026-27 AMEA Student Composition Walk

Composition is an essential part of music education, giving students the opportunity to move beyond performing and listening to become creators of music themselves. Through composing, students develop creativity, musical understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence as they discover and share their own musical voices. Whether students are experimenting with a few notes, creating a group project, or developing a more elaborate original work, every composition is an opportunity for musical growth.

AMEA invites teachers to celebrate their students’ creativity by submitting original student compositions for the AMEA In-Service Conference, January 29–30, 2027! Submissions will be accepted October 15–December 18, 2026, and compositions from entire classes are welcome.

During the conference, attendees will be able to scan QR codes to listen to student compositions and learn more about the young composers and their music. This statewide showcase offers a meaningful way to recognize student creativity, share the music being created in Arizona classrooms, and inspire fellow educators to make composition a regular part of music learning.

Give your students a chance to be heard! Encourage them to create, experiment, and share their original music. We look forward to celebrating the many musical voices of Arizona’s young composers at this year’s AMEA Conference!
